Saturday morning Essay Example for Free

Saturday morning Essay Laura had just moved to a new area and wanted to join a football club. She saw an advert in the paper for a local football club wanting to expand and gain more members. The advert stated everyone welcome. Laura decided that she would go along to the club to try and make some new friends and get involved in some physical activity to keep fit and have fun. She arrived at the club on a Saturday morning where her mother went and had a conversation with the coach regarding Lauras place at the club. Meanwhile the warm up had already started taking place and the coach and her mother insisted that Laura should go and join in. Laura felt slightly uncomfortable, as she immediately joined in with the warm up with the group of boys. As part of the warm up the group was split and had to do relays, Laura was inevitably the last one picked, When it came to the relay the assistant instructor taking the warm up did not take the time to introduce Laura to the group. When it came to the relay, Laura did not understand the brief instructions and didnt do very well. Instead of encouragement from fellow participants shouting her name and helping her on, she heard sexist remarks and sighs from her group. She left soon after that with her mother, claiming that football wasnt for her This situation could have been easily prevented, should the coach have been present and introduced Laura to the group, explaining that she was new to the area and wanted to participate in football. In turn this would have caused the other participants to take note of the fact that she was new and maybe they would have been more understanding. Taking into account that she was the only female in the group, more effort should have been mad to make her feel comfortable and introduce her properly to other participants and the assistant coach. Should this have happened then Laura would have found her first experience in the club not as daunting and embarrassing as it was, with exercises and drills being demonstrated to her patiently, making sure that she understood properly. Again, this demonstration of events displays lack of care to apply the correct ethics and values. This type of problem can be prevented in your club by means of ensuring that you are sure to introduce any new members and closely monitor the conduct of the existing members towards one another, and new members. This can easily be maintained with effort and care to guarantee that your members are happy. Also you must ensure that any exercises, drills or games are explained properly by you, or your coaches as to avoid embarrassment and confusion for all participants in the activity. Case Study 3 o Tareqs school basketball team were becoming extremely successful in their league. They had been training hard for months to complete in large tournaments across the country. Their coach had always encouraged them and pushed them to their limits in order to get maximum benefit for the team. Things started going downhill and the coach took less and less interest in the team, and they started going to less tournaments as they were supposedly cancelled or something was wrong with the minibus. Their coach had been accepting large sums of money to keep the team away from large competitions and media attention, and instead another team was in the public eye and was seen to be doing extremely well. This is a problem which can occur when a team starts doing well and receiving more and more awards and recognition. Bribes or sums of money, no matter how tempting, should never be taken or considered. It hinders the progress of a team greatly and can become disheartening for participants and even cause them to lose interest in their sport. To deal with this successfully, I would suggest that you report the concerned team coach/person offering the bribe to the organisation making the tournaments possible. This way other genuine teams can also do well and a fair competition can take place. Also your team can continue to train hard and gain confidence. Nothing should come between training your team hard and successful performances. This way your team members remain happy, fairly treated and can rest assured that they are genuinely working hard to get where they are-unlike teams with cheating, lying coaches who want recognition for their team and think it is appropriate to offer money or bribes to other coaches. Erase any possibility of these scenarios in the future by applying good ethics and values to all situations within your club, and making all participants, members and parents/guardians aware of the fact that your club is following a strict ethics and value based policy, and they can consult you at any time should they feel insecure or uncomfortable. I hope that this information will help you to make your club as successful as possible and that you gain respect for being a well run and secure environment. Your reputation should ensure that you keep existing members and attract many new ones.

Abortion-An Ultra-Conservative View :: essays research papers

My best friend is a 26-year-old woman in Medical School at the University of South Florida who has had two abortions. Through each one, I have stood by her as a faithful and loyal friend. This is not something she wishes everyone to know, but this woman is not bashful about it if asked. As a matter of fact, she has discussed it several times in front of me. In these cases, her birth control failed, and she aborted her unborn children early in the pregnancy. Simply, she made the decision to abort because she just wasn’t ready. Honestly, being a successful medical student, would you blame her? I found myself beginning to judge her after twenty years of friendship, and I think, she would not be pleased with my judgment. But, after wondering what I would do in her shoes, I have asked myself, â€Å"Is abortion justified†? My view, No. Abortion is immoral in every circumstance, which makes me an ultra-conservative person. Before I begin to discuss Marry Ann Warrens’ article, â€Å"Abortion is Morally Permissible†, I wish to define the different views of abortion. The first view of abortion is a called, â€Å"Ultra-Conservative†, which state regardless of the reason, having an abortion is immoral. This, as I stated in my introductory paragraph, is my personal view of abortion. The second view is referred to as, â€Å"Moderate-Conservative†, which states that abortion is permissible in some instances, but, overall, not moral in others. In society, many people believe this view to be accurate. But, who can judge what is permissible or not? The third view is the â€Å"Ultra-Liberal position†, which is the view that Mary Ann Warren wishes to provide support for in her article, â€Å"Abortion is Morally Permissible.† This position states that abortion is fine in all instances, regardless of the circumstances. Although many people have different views, Mary Ann Warren does hold the view of Ultra-Liberal. In Warrens’ article, she believes that a child is not a â€Å"person†. She believes that before the fetus reaches a certain point in the mothers’ pregnancy, the child cannot understand the concept behind abortion. Warren (2000) mentions in her article the following about the development of a fetus:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã¢â‚¬Å"In the ways that matter, from a moral point of view, human fetuses are very unlike human persons, particularly in the early months of development.†Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Generally, Warren defines that the forming of a fetus into a â€Å"person† can only come after the first trimester.

Huxley Maquiladora

Internationalization of a firm is often defined as its cross border business activities, which include trading resources and final products or services, capital transactions, and widening human resources. By adopting internationalization, a firm can expand its market size, minimize operation cost, and enhance competitiveness. Relocating production plant to Mexico from Texas, Huxley sets the first step into internationalization.The movement of the manufacturing site can save a significant amount of production costs like transport tariffs, labor payments and taxations. Huxley Maquiladora should utilize the benefits offered by the new location and NAFTA, and hence focus on research & development in order to improve innovation aspect. Since we enter into technology-bombard world, hi-tech is the next step to internationalize. Only by upgrading effective know-how is the solution of long-term growth and market power maintenance.There are three ways to internationalize in Mexico: subcontract ing, shelter operation and wholly owned subsidiary (WOS); however in term of Huxley’s domination power, it should mainly consider shelter operation and WOS for bigger profits and larger sustainable plans with the option of locating either in Ciudad Acuna or Saltillo. Both shelter and WOS provides the company complete control over the quality and production management, but the costs and the set-up procedures are completely different. In this case, I would suggest applying shelter operation in Saltillo.First, shelter offers a faster, simpler, and cheaper start up than WOS; it only takes about 45-120 days to turn from authorization to actual production rather than six months to a year as WOS. Also, with shelter, the company does not have to worry about choosing appropriate plant site, recruiting and training new employees, cultural practice differences, complicated taxations, getting official legalized permits and licenses, and developing a close and healthy relationships with a ll government levels.The only cost involved in shelter operation is paying the shelter service provider in term of working hours with the rate of roughly $3. 5/hr. By paying this money, Huxley can enjoy administration, HR management, and trading services without a panic. And often times the payment rate is negotiable with a long-term contract, so in the long run it may cost less than what it seems like. Furthermore, if the business is doing ell, then it is easier to become a physically locally present company than starting from zero. Ignoring the complications and hazards, the company can fully employ its higher skill-level manpower to R&D and thus come up with more up-to-date concepts and products, which is beneficial to both the firm and consumers. As far as the location choice, Saltillo has a better doing business environment than Ciudad Acuna overall.According to the information provided, Saltillo has a higher educated population with a lot more females, which is more favorable to Huxley as it highly demands skillful and fast learning female workers for lamination and filing processes. Moreover, the transportation is more developed and efficient in Saltillo, like it is closer to the international airport with more and higher capacity operated airlines, along with well urban connected highways and railroads, and more importantly it offers 100+ tons/day cargo service, which Ciudad Acuna does not.With this feature, trading and other transactions can undergo smoothly, frequently, and effortlessly. To add on, there are more industrial parks that give the company a larger degree to compare various service providers and pick the best fit one. Even though the labor and water costs are more expensive in Saltillo and the average round trip from Saltillo to the US border costs $850 more than that from Ciudad Acuna, Saltillo is still more attractive to a manufacturing business.It is because it contains more conditioning beneficial infrastructural features, which I bel ieve can help achieving the goal of profit maximization, and with that being said, the benefits will overshadow the higher cost rates after all. To conclude, the decision of Huxley on moving the production line across the border to Mexico can enhance its profit earning and Mexico’s economy and bring opportunities to local people, as well as the relationship between the two countries. A successful internationalization can lead to positive ripple effect worldwide.
